Our Mission

The Environmental Education Program at Morgan State University Estuarine Research Center is dedicated to conservation and restoration of the Chesapeake Bay, its tributaries and the surrounding watershed. The program’s goal is to achieve these criteria through education and public awareness. We provide hands-on experience and active learning in both field and laboratory settings to advance community interests in the environmental field.

Visit Us!

Groups are welcome to visit the ERC facility. Topics and activities are organized for specific curriculum needs. We here at ERC have the capability to plan lessons that meet State standards. Facilities can accommodate one class at any given time throughout the year.

If you can’t visit us, we’ll come and see you! One of our goals is to provide environmental education to all children and schools. We are able to visit local, Baltimore and Washington D.C. schools and provide educational materials on the environmental, the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed.

Distance Learning

ERC now has a brand-new state-of-the-art video conference system. This system enables us to provide your school with lectures and on-site demonstrations right in your class rooms. With our wireless system, you and your students will be able to follow the field and laboratory research and interact with our scientists from your classroom. This is a great way to learn about the environment without leaving your school.

Grant Writing and Partnerships

ERC welcomes the opportunity to partner with schools to develop grant writing capabilities. Many organizations will provide funds to pay for our services and transportation, provided students and/or teachers write grants requesting these funds. We will provide training and support for interested individuals. Some possible funding sources include The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, The Chesapeake Bay Trust, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and many others.

Community Outreach

Our Outreach Program was created to inspire environmental stewardship to the community. Throughout the year, ERC participates in various community events where we take the opportunity to provide the public with scientific information, current research and environmental issues. We provide information to broaden the public’s knowledge and understanding of the environment, particularly the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed and the anthropogenic effects on the ecosystem.
