Duties: The Transportation Research Scientist serves as the principal investigator (PI) or co-PI on transportation research projects and is responsible for developing project funding proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and project schedules; establishes deadlines for project activities and ensures that they are met; provides analytical support to faculty and other researchers in the conduct of research and in the overall coordination of research activities, including allocating and managing resources; prepares reports, including final technical reports, summarizing key findings and achievements; supervises staff and students; interacts with stakeholder organizations such, as the Federal Highway Administration and the Maryland State Highway Administration.
Minimum Qualifications: Masters Degree in transportation, engineering, planning, economics, geography, or a related field. Three years of experience in transportation research or planning, project administration, statistical and other transportation analyses, and/or geographic information systems.
Requirements: Knowledge of the principles of organizational planning, staffing and management; Knowledge of budget development methods and techniques; Knowledge of grant writing and requests for proposals responses; Ability to lead and participate in inter-disciplinary professional teams; Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and through presentation of concise but comprehensively written reports; Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
