Morgan State University, designated as a public urban university, is one of the nation’s premiere historically black institutions of higher education and one of the few offering a comprehensive range of programs, awarding degrees through the doctorate and having significant programs of research and public services. The University is located in northeast Baltimore about 20 minutes from Baltimore’s famous Inner Harbor tourist and shopping center, and 50 minutes from Washington, D.C. The University has a diverse student body of 6800 undergraduate and 900 graduate students. Students enrolled at the University may pursue graduate studies in over 27 areas of concentration leading to degrees in Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Architecture, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Business Administration, Master of City and Regional Planning, Master of Landscape Architecture, Master of Public Health, as well as Masters in Bioinformatics and Social Work; and, fourteen (14) doctoral programs offered in Urban Educational Leaderships, Mathematics Education, Science Education, Engineering, Community College Leadership, and Public Health with PhD degrees in Bioenvironmental Science, Higher Education, History, Psychometric and Social Work.

The Position: The employee will serve as an advisor to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. This individual will assist the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in the development and implementation of the goals and objectives as well as the operations of the Division of Academic Affairs. He/She will be partially responsible for the daily administration and management of the Office of Academic Affairs.

Leadership: a proven record of accomplishment of organizational leadership; the ability to work effectively within the University structure, to lead a diverse multidisciplinary faculty, and to develop mutually beneficial relationships within the broader community beyond the University.

Excellence in Management and Administrative Skills: a demonstrated ability for open and inclusive leadership and demonstrated team-building skills, with the ability to manage the necessary administrative details and operations of the academic division within the larger university and to direct the work of administrative support staff.

Qualifications: This position requires a doctoral degree in an appropriate area of specialization and effective leadership experience in an Academic Affairs administration position at the University Level.

The position will be available July 1, 2008. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The position is full-time 12 months.
