Brown Bag Lecture Series at the James E. Lewis Museum of Art

Blaise DePaolo, Assistant Professor of Sculpture, Department of Fine and Performing Art.  DePaolo recently completed her largest public art project to date, the Grow Justice mural.  She and partner Jay Cohen led community workshops where the themes of Environmental Stewardship, Human Rights, Economic Justice and Food Justice were explored.  Jay composed the mural based on a collage of the paintings generated in the workshops. Blaise selected architectural elements of the design to render in mosaic.  The Peninsula Jewish Community Center in Foster City, California commissioned the work.  Grow Justice adorns the ‘Hamlin Garden’ an organic garden in the courtyard of the center that produces hundreds of pounds of food seasonally and distributes it to communities in ‘food deserts’.
