Psychology Majors

The Psychology program offers a Bachelor of Science  (BS) degree at the undergraduate level and Master of Science (MS) and Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree at the graduate level.  

Undergraduate

Majoring in Psychology
Students are required to:

  1. Complete a minimum of 59 credit hours from the following:
    1. Psychology Foundation  Courses ( 6 credit hours)
    2. Psychology Core Content Courses (33 credit hours)
    3. Two Psychology Electives (6 credit hours)
  2. Co-Curricular Courses (14 credit hours).
  3. All required courses must be passed with a letter grade of a C or higher.
  4. Other requirements (e.g., general education courses, Liberal Arts Core credit hours) may be found in the MSU catalog.

* Psyc 101/111 is a prerequisite for ALL Psychology courses.  Psyc 108 is a prerequisite for Statistics 316.
CO-CURRICULAR REQUIREMENTS (14 Credits)
 
Psychology majors must complete the following courses and must obtain a grade of “C” or higher.
Introductory Biology II (BIOL 102)                                  
Introduction to Math Analysis I (MATH 113)                      
Students must also choose one of the following options:
1) Computer Information Literacy                                    
    COSC 110 and INSS 141
OR
2) Foreign Language

Minoring in Psychology

To complete a minor in psychology, students must successfully complete with a grade of “C” or better 18 hours of psychology courses.  Students must complete PSYC  101, three core content courses, and two psychology electives.  Students must adhere to all prerequisites.
