Visiting Turkish Scientists at Morgan State University's Patuxent Environmental and Aquatic Research Center

Dr. Chunlei Fan and Dr. Kelton Clark at Morgan State University Patuxent Environmental and Aquatic Research Laboratory (MSU PEARL), and Dr. Gulnihal Ozbay at Delaware State University, co-hosted two visiting scientists from Turkey. Dr. Sedat KARAYÜCEL and Dr. İsmihan KARAYÜCEL from Sinop University, Turkey received fellowships from the Turkish Higher Educational Council to participate in the international education, teaching and research activities and promote the international experience and collaboration. The aim of this program is to give support to teaching staffs who will deploy to abroad for 1 to 3 months by Turkish Higher Educational Council for attendance to education, teaching and research activity, for encouraging scientific activities like  international  workshops, seminars, future collaborations with the other scientists for projects and publications and for gaining international experience.

 Dr. Sedat KARAYÜCEL is Dean of the Faculty of Aquaculture and Fisheries, Sinop University, and his research focus is on marine ecology, mollusk and crustacean culture. Dr. İsmihan KARAYÜCEL is a professor of Aquaculture and Fisheries with the expertise on fish genetics and oyster reproduction. During their visit, they will be involved with the research at MSU PEARL on the program of "Integrating GIS and Remote Sensing Technology Application in Fisheries and Aquaculture" and "Chesapeake Bay Water Quality and Aquatic Species Monitoring: Bay Assessment", and further discuss the potential for future international collaboration between the two institutions.  

During their visit, they have toured the MSU PEARL Oyster Hatchery, NRG Chalk Point Generating Station and the Horn Point Oyster Hatchery in Cambridge, Maryland.
