EMAIL INSTRUCTIONS FOR NEW FACULTY AND STAFF
The 2010-2013 Morgan State University Academic Catalog mandates that Morgan email use is required for all official, electronic University communication.  Each student, faculty and staff is assigned a Morgan Network account.  The username and password for the Morgan Network will provide you with access to Morgan email, WebSIS/Banner (if applicable), Blackboard (if applicable), computers throughout campus, and the Morgan wireless network.  There is no need to request a Morgan Network account.  An account will be generated for you automatically upon completion of the employment process.  Please contact your department or HR for your email username.

Getting Started with Morgan Email - STEP 1 of 2
Once you have received your Morgan email username, you will need to use the algorithm in the chart below to retrieve your initial password.  Your initial password begins with a capital letter using the first 4 letters of your first name and your entire birthdate listed as MMDDYYYY (8 characters).

First Name Last Name Birthdate Password
Andre Smith May 10, 1994 Andr05101994
B Wu August 1, 1992 B08011992
Al Jones January 12, 1995 Al01121995

Now that you have figured out your initial password, visit http://mail.morgan.edu or select the "WEBMAIL" link from the Morgan homepage to access the email login page.  Enter your username and initial password to sign in.  Your email username is everything before the "@morgan.edu" in your email address.  For example, john.doe would be the username for john.doe@morgan.edu.

Setting Up Your Security Questions and Changing Your Initial Password - STEP 2 of 2
After logging in to your Morgan email with your initial password, you will need to set up a series of security questions in order to change and manage your password.

  1. Visit http://resetmypwd.morgan.edu.
  2. Select "My Security Questions" and follow the instructions.
  3. After setting up your security questions, change your initial password by selecting the "Change My Password" link and following the instructions.  Your password must contain a minimum of 8 characters including at least 1 capital letter and at least 1 number.  You password cannot be all numbers and it cannot be any part of your name.
  4. Now begin using your Morgan email account regularly and share your address with colleagues and vendors!  Your password will expire every 90 days!  Visit the http://resetmypwd.morgan.edu web site to change your password anytime before the 90-day period ends.

Getting Help with Email
If you experience trouble with your Morgan email account (i.e., loggin in or changing your password) and you've already created your security questions, visit http://resetmypwd.morgan.edu and follow the instructions.  If you have not already created your security questions, contact the HELP Desk at 443-885-4357, text/VM 410-929-3680 or at helpdesk@morgan.edu, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.  Employees are strongly encouraged to establish their security questions so they can self-manage their email accounts.

Wireless Network
Most buildings and some outdoor areas on campus are wireless.  To connect to a Morgan wireless network, select "MSU Wireless" from the list of available networks.  Your username and password for the Morgan wireless network is the same as your username and password for Morgan email, WebSIS/Banner, Blackboard, and campus computers throughout campus.
