HELP DESK

How do I reach the Morgan HELP Desk?

The HELP DESK can be reached at 443-885-4357. The HELP Desk hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.     (back to top)

I live in on-campus housing and have a computer problem. Can I call the HELP desk?
Yes, the technicians will help with service of wall jacks, and will update anti-virus software. However, they do not repair computers or install hardware or software. Technicians may evaluate a student's computer system and provide recommendations.     (back to top)

I live on-campus and my phone is not working. Can I call the HELP desk?
Yes, the HELP desk technicians will verify line service for your phone unless you live in MorganView. Phone service does not include Long Distance-those calls must be made with a calling card.     (back to top)

I was told I have to sign paperwork for my room phone. Is this true?
Yes, Residence Hall Directors or your Resident Assistant will ask Morgan students to sign and date that you have read and will abide by the rules and regulations for telephone procedures and restrictions. These forms are forwarded to the Office of Telecommunications.     (back to top)

I live on-campus and I cannot get my TV to work? Who can I call?
The HELP desk at ext. 4357 will have a technician troubleshoot any problems related to wall jacks for cable TV. Students must supply their own TV and COAX Cables.     (back to top)


E-MAIL

Is there an official Morgan e-mail system?
Yes, all students, faculty and staff have been issued a University e-mail account called Morgan e-mail. Your username and password are the same for e-mail, Blackboard, and logging in to campus computers.     (back to top)

How do I find my Morgan e-mail user address?
Log into your WebSIS account and select "Personal Information" from the top links.  Select "View Email Addresses" from the menu. You should see your Morgan e-mail address. The user name is the portion before the @ sign (username@morgan.edu).
WebSIS will NOT display your e-mail password. If you do not see a Morgan e-mail account in WebSIS, contact the HELP Desk at 443-885-4357.     (back to top)

Am I required to use Morgan e-mail?

What do I do if I forgot my password?
If you have set up your security questions, click on the Change My Password link at http://resetmypwd.morgan.edu, answer your security questions, and change your password. Otherwise, call the HELP Desk.     (back to top)

Can I change my password or do I have to call the HELP Desk?
It depends. If you have set up your security questions, click on the Change My Password link at http://resetmypwd.morgan.edu, answer your security questions, and change your password. Otherwise, you will have to call the HELP Desk.     (back to top)

Why do I have to set up my security questions?
Once you have set up your security questions, you will be able to manage your e-mail password without having to call the Help Desk.     (back to top)

WebSIS

What is WebSIS?
Self-Service Banner, known as WebSIS, is a user-friendly online tool that allows for management of personal and academic information through the use of hyperlinks, eliminating the need to stand in line or fill out some paper forms.  Students can use WebSIS to perform the following functions:  register for classes, make payments and view account information, view and update financial aid information, view grades and academic transcripts, and access and update personal information.     (back to top)

What is my WebSIS User ID?
Your username and password for WebSIS is your Morgan eID, the same as for almost all University systems.    (back to top)

How do I navigate through WebSIS to check and update my student record/account?

How often is WebSIS available?
WebSIS is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Occasionally upgrades are made to the University system, which may cause a brief period of downtime.     (back to top)

Can I log into WebSIS if I am away from campus?
Yes. WebSIS is accessible from any computer around the world that has internet access by visiting Morgan's webpage (www.morgan.edu) and clicking on the "WebSIS" link.     (back to top)     

Which internet browser should I use when visiting WebSIS?
You may use any brower for WebSIS.  For optimal usage, however, it is recommended that you use Internet Explorer as your browser. Some WebSIS features may not fully function/load using other browsers.     (back to top)

When I try to register for classes I get an error message. Why is this happening?
One or more of the following scenarios may be causing this: (1) the period to register for classes is not open, (2) you have a hold on your account and, therefore, cannot register, (3) you may not have met the requirement(s) for the course you have chosen, (4) you may have exceeded your credit limit and must contact your Chairperson to seek an override into that particular course, or (5) there is a system error and you should contact someone in the Registrar's Office (443-885-3300).     (back to top)

Why can't I update my permanent mailing address or Morgan email address using WebSIS?
Your permanent address can only be changed by visiting the Office of Records & Registration in person. Your Morgan e-mail account cannot be changed. It is your official University e-mail address and will remain as such.     (back to top)

How do I properly exit from my current WebSIS session?
At any point during your WebSIS session, you may click on the "EXIT" link located in the upper right hand corner of the screen to properly exit from your session.     (back to top)I was instructed to log back into WebSIS after having been idle for a brief period of time. Why does this happen?
For your protection, you will automatically be logged out of your WebSIS session after a specific timeframe of inactivity.     (back to top)

When I attempt to view my grades, I notice that all of my grades are not showing up for the most recent semester. Why is this happening?
All of your grades may not have been submitted yet. You may want to check your schedule in WebSIS to ensure that you are still enrolled in the course(s) not being displayed or contact the instructor(s).     (back to top)


BLACKBOARD

My teacher is using Blackboard (Bb). What can I do in Blackboard?
You will be able to access course information, such as the syllabus and course material. You can also use the discussion board, send e-mails to your instructor and fellow classmates, as well as take exams and turn in assignments. Your instructors will inform you of the features they intend to use.  There is also a Bb Mobile app you can purchase -- search for Morgan State University at this link  (back to top)


How do I get a Blackboard Account?
Blackboard is integrated with WebSIS (the student registration system).  Students and faculty are automatically added to Blackboard during registration periods. You should use your Morgan Network user name and password to log in. Contact Karen.Rubinstein@morgan.edu, or Sabah.Karam@morgan.edu, or text or voice message to 443-300-8850. Specify that you have a Morgan network/e-mail account, but you need to be added to Blackboard.     (back to top)

What is my Blackboard User Name and Password?
Your Blackboard user name and password is the same as your Morgan network/e-mail user name and password. When you change your Morgan network/e-mail password, the change applies to Blackboard also.     (back to top)

I don’t see a course I need on my Blackboard Welcome Screen. How do I enroll in a Blackboard Course?
Students are automatically enrolled into Blackboard courses on the day they register using WebSIS. VERY IMPORTANT:  Please pay your bill on time.  Lack of payment may result in your being dropped from your courses in WebSIS, and therefore in Blackboard as well.

NETWORK

Who can use the Morgan network?
The Morgan Network is for authorized users only which includes students, staff, and faculty. Each user needs a unique, Morgan user ID and password. Wireless networks that are not operated by the University are strictly prohibited by the State of Maryland and the University's standard security practice.     (back to top)

Is my network use monitored?
Network use is continuously monitored. Excessive use of bandwidth or other activities that threaten the network will result in automatic disconnection of computers that are causing the problem.     (back to top)

My roommate downloads music and videos. Is this okay?
Illegal downloads of music, videos, or other copyrighted material may be subject to external legal action against offenders. Owners of copyrighted material have a reputation for prosecuting offenders and having large fines levied against students.    

Violators of this policy are subject to having their network privileges revoked. Repeat violators will be referred to the Morgan State University Office of Judicial Affairs and could face permanent revocation of network privileges as well as other sanctions.     (back to top)

How do I access wireless on campus?

I do not have a computer. Are there open computer labs on campus?

CLEAN ACCESS

What is Clean Access?
Cisco NAC Web Agent, also known as Clean Access, is a system that ensures computers connected to the Morgan network are up to date on patches, are running anti-virus and anti-spyware software, and have a firewall enabled.     (back to top)

Why was Clean Access installed at Morgan?
The State Legislative Auditors require that Morgan State University's network be secure from unauthorized access to critical systems.     (back to top)

Does Clean Access monitor me or my computer?
No.  The system does not monitor you, your computer, or the web sites you visit.     (back to top)

What actions should I take it I am unable to authenticate or log in to my computer using Clean Access?
You should right-click on the McAfee icon on the right hand corner of the bottom toolbar.  After you right-click, select UPDATE NOW and wait for the update to complete.  Then, retry your log on.  If after updating McAfee, you are still unable to authenticate/log in, try updating your Windows operating system at www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com; or update Java at www.java.com.  If these three actions do not help you log in, contact the Help Desk on extension 4357.     (back to top)
