Department: School of Community Health & Policy (SCHP)
Duties: Reports to the Dean of the School of Community Health and Policy; assists the Dean in academic planning for the School; provides oversight of the academic procedures; assures appropriate services for students, and develops academic capacity through grant funding; assists the Dean in development, implementation and evaluation of the strategic plan for the School; assists the Dean in coordinating accreditation activities, including the self study and site visit for all programs; develops the curriculum and student services components for the strategic plan for the School; facilitates course planning and development, course scheduling and curriculum evaluation and/or revision; monitors student education and training to ensure core competencies for public health practice; manages the SCHP Office of Student Affairs and its staff; provides evidence-based recommendations for improving the integration of SCHP practice into course teaching and learning strategies; develops continuing and distance education strategies; coordinates, supports, and evaluates student focused events such as graduation, Spring Symposium, and American Public Health Association student presentations; Supports the Dean in making presentations and reports regarding curriculum and academic processes to oversight and funding agencies; including Morgan State University, represents SCHP at departmental, institutional and interdisciplinary meetings and conferences; seeks grant funding for academic and education development; coordinates academic faculty committees, and perform other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral Degree in Public Health or a related field. Ten years experience in public health education and academic administration.
Requirements: Knowledge of peer education and academic administration; an established record of peer reviewed publication focusing on the elimination of ethnic disparities is preferred, as is documented success in managing a complex academic organization during a period of significant change; knowledge of academic policies and procedures; skill in writing grants; ability to write grants; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to exercise strong problem-solving; ability to think creatively, ability to manage multiple and complex assignments and deal effectively with changing priorities.
