NEW COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING & BRIDGE

This new state-of-the-art facility will house the Media Center Communications Studies, the journalism and writing tracks of the English Department, the WEAA Radio Station as well as a Student Publication Suite. The site is the undeveloped land between the Engineering Building and the Chinquapin Run. The project includes a Pedestrian/ Light Vehicle Bridge over the stream and connecting to the Academic Quad.


NEW LIBRARY

Construction of the New Library to replace the existing Soper Library. The new library will be built on a highly prominent site, fronting Hillen Road. This building in conjunction with the student center currently under design, will form the core of the Morgan Commons and be the central hub for student life on campus. In addition to traditional library services, the building will include exhibits, lounges, meeting rooms, classrooms, computer labs, data processing and storage. The facility will provide for up-to-date technology in an appropriate environment.


NEW STUDENT CENTER

The new Student Center will be constructed on the site of the existing Soldiers's Armory . The new center will contain a Ballroom, Food Court, Bookstore, Recreation, Student Office and Meeting Space, Cyber Café and other features to enrich the students' campus living experience.


NEW RICHARD N. DIXON RESEARCH FACILITY & GREENHOUSE

The University is actively involved and has made significant contributions in scientific research. This new three story academic science research facility with greenhouse will be constructed on the present site of the Memorial Refectory and will be connected to our existing science complex. It will accommodate research laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biology. The facility will also include administration space, conference rooms, seminar rooms and a 100-seat amphitheater. It will be completed in June 2003.


NEW PARKING GARAGE
500 car parking

A new 500+ car parking structure will be constructed on J Lot behind the new student center. The project will connect to the new student center via pedestrian bridge from the garage to the 2nd level of the new student center.


BANNEKER HALL RENOVATION

Banneker Communication Building will be renovated to house the School of Education and Urban Studies. Included in this project is the relocation of the University's Telecommunication Hub to the New Communications Building.


CAMPUS - WIDE SITE IMPROVEMENTS

This is a phased project with the overall goal of improving the campus appearance. Included are upgrades to green space, landscaping, roads and walkways, paving, grading, fencing, lighting, reforestation, gathering areas, campus gateways, benches and kiosks.


MORGAN VIEW APARTMENTS
Total Project Cost $ 31,569,993
Phase I: 796 Units and 5 Buildings

Currently under development, the Morgan View Apartments will be located less than a quarter mile from campus. Phase I, which will accommodate 62 graduate and 734 undergraduate students, will be available for occupancy in Fall 2003. The apartment will be furnished with a fully equipped kitchen, cable tv, and high- speed internet service. The Complex will include a Community Center comprised of a computer room, game room, fitness center, 300- seat meeting room, and convenience store.
