NIANI stands for Nurturing Individuals to Advance their Natural Intellect. The goal of the NIANI program is to provide after school and summer educational, social, and cultural and leadership opportunities for elementary children in order to increase their math and language arts test scores as measured by the Maryland School Performance Assessment Program (MSPAP).
Other components of the NIANI program include exposing the children to the methods of problem solving, critical thinking skills, computer skills, African-American enrichment and leadership opportunities. Facilities at Morgan State University such as the swimming pool, gymnasium, indoor and outdoor athletic courts, computer and science laboratories, and classrooms are all available to the elementary children participating in the NIANI tutoring and mentoring program.
NIANI looks forward to breaking new educational ground as it addresses those academic skills needed by Baltimore City elementary children in order for them to pass the MSPAP test. Additionally,as a result of being in the NIANI tutoring and mentoring program, the elementary children will also understand the importance of education, the need to graduate from institutions of higher education, and the fact that they are the leaders of the future.
