Do I have to have a Bear Necessity Card?
Yes! The card is your official identification card and is required by the University. The card is not transferable and is the property of Morgan State University. Cardholders must carry their card at all times.

How do I care for my Bear Necessity Card?
Your ID card show be treated with the same care as a credit card. To prevent erasure of the information encoded on the magnetic stripe, please do not store your card near a radio, television, tape deck, or any other electrical equipment. Also, avoid carrying your ID card in a wallet purse of jacket that has velcro closures. Please carry it in the protective case provided.

Can I loan my card to a friend?
No! Your Bear Necessity Card should be carried at all times, by the cardholder identified on the card only. Your ID card is not transferable.

What happens if I forget my card?
Your Bear Necessity card is your payment system, without it you will not be able to access your spending accounts.

What if my card is lost or stolen?
Report your lost or stolen card to the Bear Necessity Card Office immediately by calling 443.885.4045/4046 of 1 (888) 319-BEAR. Your account will be deactivated. The cardholder is responsible for all financial activity generated on the card, therefore it is critical that you report your card lost or stolen immediately. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. However, you can call us after regular business hours, and leave us a voice message and we will address your situation the next business day.

Is there a fee to replace my lost or stolen card?
Yes! A replacement fee of $25.00 is charged for all lost, stolen or defaced cards. It can be paid at the Bursars' cashier window. You must then , bring your receipt to the Bear Necessity Card Center and a replacement card will be issued. Or, funds can be deducted from your Retail account, by stopping by the bear necessity Card center and completing the proper form and a replacement card will be issue.

There is no charge to replace your card if:
Your card malfunctions for no apparent reason.
You have an official name or status change.

Misused ID Cards
If someone other than the cardholder is caught trying to use a Morgan State University Bear Necessity Card , the card will be confiscated and the person with ID card can be prosecuted by the University. Also, if the card holder has not reported the card lost or stolen, the cardholder could be asked to pay the $25.00 replacement fee to get a replacement card.

Can I track my transactions?
Yes! All transactions are recorded by date, time, location and amount. Account statements may be obtained by completing a request form in the Bear Necessity Card Center. Your account balances will also appear on all receipts.
