Bear Necessity Card Accounts
There are three (3) spending
accounts accessible by the Bear Necessity Card:
Limited General Account, Retail Account and Books Only
Account. Funds can be transferred between your Limited General and
Retail Accounts by completing a transfer form in the Bear Necessity
Card Center. Funds can also be transferred from your Morgan State University
Student Account to one of your (3) three Bear Necessity Card accounts
by completing a transfer form in the Bursars' office.
Limited General- is used in the Canteen, Dining Hall, Sweet Shoppe, Library copiers, Vending and Laundry Machines. A PIN is not required to access funds from this account. Your daily purchases are limited to $25.00 per day, in the event your card is lost or stolen.
Retail - is used in the bookstore, at the Library circulation desk and the McKeldin Center Ticket Counter. A PIN is required to access funds from this account.
Books - this account is restricted to textbooks and instructional materials purchased from the Bookstore. Funds cannot be transferred from this account to the other BNC accounts. A PIN is required to access funds from this account. WHEN PURCHASING TEXTBOOKS, PLEASE INFORM THE BOOKSTORE CASHIER IF YOU HAVE FUNDS IN THIS ACCOUNT, OTHERWISE FUNDS WILL BE TAKEN FROM THE RETAIL ACCOUNT. Funds in the Books Account cannot be transferred.
Please note: You cannot withdraw cash/funds from the (3) three spending accounts. Once funds are deposited, they roll forward until you graduate or withdraw from the University. Also, cash refunds are not made for Bookstore Merchandise approved for return, a credit will be made to your card.
Depositing Money Into Your BNC Accounts
You can deposit money into your accounts at the following locations:

The Bursars' Office - cash or check is excepted. (Funds deposited by check are not available until the check clears the bank)
- One of the (3) three MVT (Morgan Value Terminal) machines. The Morgan Value Terminals are a self-operating, user friendly machines that allow you to add value to your Bear Necessity Card debit account. Simply, swipe your card in the MVT reader and follow the step-by-step instructions displayed on the screen. Balances are also available at the MVT or by visiting the Bear Necessity Card Center, located in the Montebello Complex, Room D-128.
- Montebello Complex - Lobby - Limited General Account Only
- Soper Library - Main Lobby - Limited General Account Only
- McKeldin Center - 2nd Floor - Retail Account Only
MVT machines are available during the Buildings hours of
operation.
