Bernard Osher Scholarship

The Bernard Osher Foundation, based in San Francisco, CA was founded by Mr. Bernard Osher, a well respected businessman and community leader. The foundation provides post secondary scholarship funds to colleges and universities across the nation. The mission of the foundation is "to improve the quality of life through the support of higher education and fine arts."

The first ever award to Morgan State University's Center for Continuing and Professional Studies in 2008 was to establish the Osher Re-entry Scholarship Program for adult students. Based on the success of the program, in 2011, The Bernard Osher Foundation provided a $1 million dollar endowed gift to continue the support of the Osher Re-entry Scholarship Program.

If you believe the Osher Program is right for you, the criteria for admissions are as follows:

  • Currently enrolled as a part-time or full-time MSU student
  • Returning to the University after a gap of 5 or more years
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree
  • Between the ages of 25-50
  • U.S. Citizen and Maryland Resident
  • Have a GPA of 2.7 or higher

Alpha Sigma Lambda Continuing Education National Honor Society

In 1945, Dr. Rollin B. Posey founded Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society to recognize and honor those dedicated adult students who, while adroitly handling their life responsibilities, achieve and maintain high scholastic standards.  The Society not only brings together outstanding students and faculty, but also offers each individual an exposure to interests other than his/her own.   The Morgan State University Gamma Pi Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda was chartered in 1984.  After an eleven year absence from the campus, it was reinstituted through the Center for Continuing and Professional Studies in 2007.

The aim of Alpha Sigma Lambda is to acknowledge the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work.  To the adult learner in higher education, Alpha Sigma Lambda stands as an inspiration to scholastic growth and an invitation to associate with similarly motivated students.  Alpha Sigma Lambda is dedicated to the advancement of scholarship, and recognizes high scholastic achievement in an adult student's career.
