Improved Opportunities for Parents (IOP) Program

Improved Opportunities for Parents (IOP) Program

The IOP Program is supported by Morgan State University and is located in The Center for Continuing and Professional Studies.  The program is designed to assist individuals, especially parents, in obtaining a bachelor's degree. The IOP program facilitates college matriculation for community residents who would not otherwise pursue the bachelor's degree.

The program is specifically designed to improve educational opportunities for economically disadvantaged participants, who reside in the State of Maryland. Upon completion of the program, recipients will enhance their employability, thereby resulting in self-sufficiency for themselves and their families.

IOP Participants

The Improved Opportunities for Parents (IOP) Rap Session is held each semester for students enrolled at Morgan State University in the IOP Program. The Program is designed to assist non-traditional students, especially parents, in obtaining a bachelor’s degree. The Spring 2014 Rap Session, held on March 6th, was a great success. Eighteen students were in attendance. The speakers were prospective IOP graduates for both May 2014 and December 2014 graduations. They encouraged, motivated, and challenged the students to continue on their educational journeys. For the May 2014 graduation, the graduates are: Lavona Harris (Family and Consumer Sciences), Sharde Harrison (Family and Consumer Sciences), Ayana McClary (Health Education).
