Center for Health Disparities Solutions
Community Fellowships

Description

The Center for Health Disparities Solutions (CHDS) has Community Fellowship opportunities available. CHDS recognizes that individuals with extensive experience in addressing health disparities and related issues possess knowledge invaluable to understanding those issues and developing innovative solutions facing racial and ethnic minorities in Baltimore and surrounding communities.

CHDS hopes to increase its capacity to produce positive changes in the health profiles of its targeted communities by encouraging greater cooperation between community activists and university researchers. These fellowships will also strengthen the relationships between community leaders and Morgan's faculty and students; 2) develop capacities of community-based organizations; and 3) develop innovative health disparities solutions by bringing together the knowledge of both the university and the community.

Fellows will 1) work with Center staff on research projects; 2) participate in Center activities depending on their area of expertise, goals, and available resources; 3) ensure that the needs of the community are presented to the Center; 4) teach/ mentor students in a community based project; 5) promote the Center’s activities to the community. The overall goal of each project will be to leave skills and capacities in both the community and the university once the project is completed.

Center for Health Disparities Solutions

CHDS is a collaborative research effort between Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Morgan State University. That National Institute of Health’s National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities has funded this collaboration. CHDS is dedicated to the elimination of ethnic/ racial, socioeconomic, and geopolitical disparities in health and health care.
