On-line Career Network to Link Corporate

Partners With Alumni

Salomon Smith Barney, BGE, McCormick, and MBNA are but a few Graves School business partners who have, at one time or another expressed an interest in speaking to Morgan business alumni about various job opportunities.

OK, you ask, so what’s the problem?

The problem is that there is no efficient process and means to link alumni job seekers with business partner opportunities. That is until now!

Starting this fall, the Graves School will launch the Graves School On-line Career Network. The on-line career matching service will allow employers to look up profiles of alumni by profession and other key words. Likewise, alumni can search the employer job listings by area of interest using key words and professional job titles.

"The need for this kind of service is overdue," says Kenneth Westary, director of corporate relations. "Our corporate partners have been asking us how they can have better access to Morgan business alum. Now we will be able to show them."

The Graves Career Network will post alumni profiles instead of resumes to maintain the anonymity of the prospective job seeker. Alumni profiles will include such information as employer, products or services offered, position held, responsibilities, accomplishments, education, and other pertinent information.

"The idea is to offer a complete profile of the prospective job seeker, without putting his/her business out on the Internet," says Westary.

Graves School business partners will be able to search the alumni network for profiles that match their particular employment needs. Upon finding profiles of interest, the company can request the candidates resume (with your permission.)

Likewise, Graves School alumni will be able to gain access to various job announcements by attaching their profiles to specific job announcements.

"There will surely be a few kinks in the process, but through experience we hope to provide our business partners and alumni with an efficient means of making a career connection," says Westary.

Morgan business school alumni who would like to participate in the Career Network Program should forward a completed resume to the Office of Corporate Relations, Morgan State University, Earl G. Graves School of Business and Management, McMechen 635, 1700 E. Cold Spring Lane, Baltimore, MD 21251.
