BLACK & DECKER TOOLS UP AT MORGAN

Over the past several years, Black & Decker has forged a strong alliance with Morgan State University, says a Black and Decker spokesperson. With our corporate headquarters located nearby in Towson, the company has found a great partner with Morgan State, for both recruiting and other campus enrichment activities.

Black & Decker's recruiting efforts have increased at Morgan due to some great successes with both students and alumni, including Ebony Busby, Ralph Curry and Alan Robinson. Considerable interest has been generated for Black & Decker's entry-level sales/marketing positions, and we continue to look for new ways to further increase the interest. Black & Decker wishes to enhance this partnership because as our business grows, so does our need for exceptional candidates. Morgan has been a great place to look for and find some of Black & Decker's future leaders.

GRAVES SCHOOL STUDENTS EXPERIENCE "THE MANY SIDES OF SEARS"

An internship is a vital part of the job search, especially for those thinking about getting real world business experience to put them a step ahead of the competition in the job market. And an industry to consider is retail since retail encompasses many areas.

Sears, a member of Morgan State University's Corporate Alliance Program, is piloting a special internship program this spring at one of their Baltimore area stores. The purpose of the pilot program is to introduce Morgan students not only to the retail industry, but to Sears, a leading retailer of apparel, home automotive products and related services for families throughout North America.

Two Morgan students were selected to participate in the Sears internship program: Kristen Harfield and James Harkelss. Kristen and James have put their education to practical use and have had an opportunity to experience the "many sides of Sears" because they have worked with customers, managers and other associates. They also have explored the support functions that keep Sears moving.

"Sears has developed a positive internship program for building interest in Sears and the retail industry," said James. "Sears is a forward-thinking and progressive company with a strong commitment to its employees. I especially like the friendly management and support staff at Sears Eastpoint. Working at Sears has positively changed my attitude about the retail industry."

"Before applying for this internship, I had mixed feelings about the retail industry, however, my feelings have now changed. I plan to become a retail buyer and this program has exposed me to the retail field," said Kristen. "This internship program is a mini-version of the Sears Executive Development Program and gives you a real look at what a manager really does."
