C.A.P. Partners host the Graves School's First Career and Professional Development Conference Week

Students from Western and Lake Clifton High Schools joined Graves School business students to learn about the finer points of "Getting and Keeping the Job You Want" as part of the business school's first professional development conference. Students not only attended workshops in subjects like Business Etiquette, Effective Communication, Mentoring and Networking, and Having an Impact on Your Organization; but they also helped to coordinate and play host to the many company representatives who participated in this week long conference. "I really enjoyed the sessions and felt that they offered some of the best insights about business professionalism," says Kimberly Prioleau `99 accounting major. "The various company information sessions allowed one to enhance his/her awareness of different career opportunities."

Hyatt Hotel, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, and MBNA were all major sponsors of the conference, hosting an entire day in order to share information about various job opportunities, and to conduct professional development workshops pertinent to being successful in their respective industries. Hyatt hosted a much talked about information luncheon that included a gourmet lunch served on fine dinnerware by Hyatt waiters and waitresses. This would not be that impressive, except that Hyatt brought this fine dining experience to Morgan's McKeldin Center.

C.A.P. partner representatives participated throughout the entire week. On the last two days, C.A.P. members were joined by representatives of the Urban League's Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP). BEEP and C.A.P. members joined forces to deliver workshops on Putting together the A+ Resume, Dressing and Acting the Part, Effective Interviewing, and other timely topics.

Graves School students, faculty, and staff thank Hyatt Hotels, Pfizer, MBNA, UPS, GTE, AT&T, Consolidated Edison, Aerotek, McCormick, State Farm, Quaker Oats, NationsBank, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Hormel Foods, and others who participated in and supported this very important initiative.

GRAVES SCHOOL WELCOMES BLACK EXECUTIVE EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Members of the Urban League's Black Executive Exchange Program participated in the Graves School's Career and Professional Development Conference, held on March 8 through March 12.

The theme for the entire week was "Getting and Keeping the Job You Want." Sponsored by the school's Corporate Alliance Program partners. Students throughout the week received valuable information about different industries and companies, and participated in various professional development workshops. While C.A.P. partners covered the first three days of workshops, Black Executive Exchange Program participants made up the majority of the last two days.

The Urban League's Black Executive Exchange Program was developed out of the need to expose black college students to positive role models in business, industry and government and to invigorate the curricula at black colleges and universities by relating them more closely to the world of work.

The students, faculty, and staff at the Graves School greatly appreciate and thank the members and staff of the Urban League's Black Executive Exchange Program.
