Position: The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts at Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland, is seeking outstanding candidates to fill two faculty positions, beginning with the 2006-2007 academic year. These are tenure track positions.

Position 1: The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses. Candidates should be able to teach courses in the field of Criminal Justice, and Introduction to Sociology, Social Theory, Research Methods, and Urban Sociology. Preference will be given to candidates who hold the Ph.D. in Sociology with a specialization in Criminal Justice.

Position 2: The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses. Candidates should be able to teach courses in the field of Anthropology. Preference will be given to candidates who hold the Ph.D. degree in Anthropology with a specialization in Sociology and who are able to teach courses in Archaeology and Forensic Anthropology.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Sociology; have university/college-level teaching experience; show evidence of ongoing scholarly activity in the field; demonstrate a commitment to working with an ethnically and culturally diverse student population; and have a strong commitment to the Liberal Arts and the ability to contribute to the educational mission of the department, the College of Liberal Arts, and the University

The University: Morgan State University is a historically black institution with the distinct designation as Maryland’s public urban university. It is committed at the undergraduate level to the liberal arts, sciences, business, architecture, education and engineering. Undergraduates may pursue studies in 39 areas of concentration as well as in pre-professional fields of pharmacy, dentistry, medicine, medical technology and law. At the graduate level, the University offers 21 master’s degree programs, including programs in the arts and sciences, business, education, built-environment studies (i.e., architecture, landscape architecture, city and regional planning), engineering, public health, social work, and transportation. It also offers doctoral programs in bioenvironmental science, business administration, educational leadership, engineering, English, higher education, history, mathematics education, public health, science education and social work.

The Department: The Department of Sociology and Anthropology offers the undergraduate and graduate degree in Sociology and minor concentrations in Anthropology, Criminal Justice, and Sociology.

POSITION: The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is in search of applicants to teach graduate and undergraduate course. Candidates should be able to teach courses in Introduction to Sociology, Statistics, Research Methods, Social Theory, and ONE of the following: Criminal Justice, the Family, and Urban Sociology.

QUALIFICATION & RESPONSIBLITIES: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in the discipline, and have a proven record of research, scholarship, and publications. The standard teaching load is twelve credits per semester in the undergraduate program and nine credits per semester in the graduate program, with the opportunity for released-time to conduct research, write grant proposals, and direct graduate theses. Appointments begin in August 2003 and are for 9- 1/2 months.

SALARY: Commensurate with rank, experience, and qualifications.
