Dear Student & Scholar:

Welcome to the Morgan State University Psychology Department website.  The Psychology Department, housed in the College of Liberals Arts, represents one of the five departments and disciplinary focuses of the behavioral and social sciences.  Your reading this websites reflects your interest in the Department of Psychology at MSU and your desire to determine how you might participate as a student within the Department and discipline of psychology.  We offer the bachelors in science in psychology, which suggests that the program has an empirical or experimental approach and that there is an emphasis on students gaining experience and understanding the nature of psychology as a science.  In that regard, the Morgan State University Department of Psychology provides a broad spectrum of academic and intellectual experiences, which encourage students’ active participation in the discipline of psychology and related disciplines.

Students must also complete the college-wide requirements in general education, foreign language, computer science, mathematics, and natural science.  There are opportunities for additional research with faculty members within the Department, outside the Department, and through University-wide, federally funded training programs.  This experience can help you focus on a career path and develop the skills and contacts that will start you on your way.  The Department of Psychology has developed several initiatives that increase African-American participation and leadership in psychological, behavioral, social, and academic research.  These programs, which are federally funded, provide field study and research that extend students skills and knowledge. In addition to the Program funded to the Department, there are other opportunities on the MSU campus to engage in research and research-related activities (e.g. the Minority Accesses to Research Careers, Research Initiatives for Scientific Enhancement, and the Mining for great minds!Drug Abuse Research Program) that provide first hand experiences, which shape the careers decisions and choice.  The Department views one of its goals as mining the talent pool at MSU for great minds.

Again, welcome!  Use this website to find out about the MSU Psychology faculty and their interests, to familiarize yourself with the requirements of MSU’s General Education and Psychology Departmental Requirements, and to examine important information about for careers in psychology, activities and organizations for students majoring in psychology.  We look forward to your being and visiting with us.
