Proficiency Examinations

 

The University catalog states that the Speech and Writing proficiencies are “examinations which must be passed by all candidates for graduation, and they should be taken at the end of a students’ sophomore year.  No semester credits are earned in passing these examinations.  Dates on which these examinations are given are included in the University Calendar.  Add ional information should be requested from the department in which thee examinations are offered.”

 

*   Students should make arrangements to take the examinations with the Department of Communications Studies, located in the Banneker Communications Center.

*           Students may also complete this requirement by completing SPCH101.  If you had passed the examination given at the end of the course, please make sure that your instructor has recorded your results.  Also, make sure that your keep copies of the results in your files.

*   Students must register for to take the Writing Proficiency with the Department of English, located in Holmes Hall.  The deadline to register for the Writing Proficiency is 1 week or 7 days for the examination is given.  

*   All important dates are published and posted on the bulletin board of the Departments and in the Dean’s Office, College of Liberal Arts, located in Holmes Hall.

*   Finally, it is your responsibility that you take the examinations, pass them, and make sure that your results are recorded….accurately.  To ensure that you graduate on time, make sure that you have taken these exams during the timeframe recommended.  This suggested that these examinations should be complete no later that the 1st semester of the junior year.

 

The University catalog states that the Senior-Level Comprehensive Examinations in the major filed of study “must be passed by all candidates for graduation.  Arrangements to take this examination re make by the student with the departmental Chairperson.” 

*   The dates for the examinations are established by the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and are posted in the Department and in the Office of the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, located in Holmes Hall. 

*   The dates for the 2003 – 2004 Academic Year are:

*           Saturday, November 1 from 9:00 – 1:00 in Jenkins Hall, Room 103.

*           Saturday, March 6 from 9:00 – 1:00 in Jenkins Hall, Room 103.

*   Please look for posted information regarding study sessions.  The 1st session is scheduled for Oct. 2 from 11:00 – 12:30.  The place will be announced.
