Supplemental Instruction Program
Supplemental Instruction is an academic assistance program that increases student performance and retention. The goal of the program is to target historically difficult courses and achieve above average performance in each of those subjects. The historically challenging class for the College of Liberal Arts are:
- English 101 and 102
- Mathematics 106 and 109
- Biology 101 and Chemistry 101
- Developmental Reading 101
- History 101/102 and 105/106
- Health Education 100
SI is a non-remedial approach to learning enrichment that increases student performance and retention. SI offers regularly scheduled, out-of-class review sessions to all student enrolled in a targeted course. SI study sessions are informal seminars in which students review notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools, and prepare for examinations. Students learn to integrate course content with reasoning and study skills.
The SI session are facilitated by "SI Leaders," students who have previously and successfully completed the targeted course. SI leaders attend all class lectures, take notes, and act as model students for their classmates.
