Student Enrichment Program

Community of Academic Partners

Do you want convenient ways to study and learn with other people?
Do you want to take the opportunity to expand your college experience beyond the classroom?
Do you want to be a successful college student?

If the students in the College of Liberal Arts answer “YES” to any of these questions, then SEP has something just for them. CAP. The Student Enrichment Program will offer nine (9) FLC for the 2007-2008 academic school year. CAP create opportunities for students and faculty to share the excitement of learning! They’re small, they’re perso9nalized and they’re for students that fall in the category of academic jeopardy.

The Community of Academic Partners is a residential experience that brings together what happened inside the classroom and outside the classroom. Students with the same majors and similar interest will be paired together and take courses with each other in their major, while receiving additional programming and support for their academic advisor. Students that enroll in the learning communities are will be more satisfied with their college experience and are more likely to stay in school and graduate.

This program is a one-year commitment (fall and spring). CAP students must:

  • Major in a the College of Liberal Arts
  • Register for specific CAP courses as specified in the program
  • Participate in CAP academic and community events (workshops, study groups, and discussions)

Benefits of joining the Community of Academic Partners:

  • Learning with other students who are committed to the standard course work in their curriculum required in order to increase their grade point average.
  • Have people assigned to study with you and mentor students.
  • Having tutoring and support available to help succeed in the historically troubling class for Liberal Arts majors.
  • Have special program designed to assist for the first year experience with academic difficulty.

Research shows that learning communities work. Students that take part in learning communities earn higher grades, make friends faster, and even graduate at higher or faster rates than students how don’t participate in learning communities.
