Other Requirements

The University requires all freshmen to complete a Freshman Orientation course. Your college/ school/ institute may also require you to complete a special Honors orientation section. Students (freshmen and transfer) must also earn at least one credit of physical education.

You must also register for and complete Honors courses in your major department when these courses are available. These are called the Honors Major requirements. In addition to the Honors Major and General Education requirements, you must also pass both the Writing and Speech Proficiency Examinations as well as your Major Departmental Comprehensive Examination.

The Speech Proficiency Examination is a sophomore-level examination that should be completed immediately following completion of your freshman year of study at Morgan. Transfer students classified as sophomores or higher should register for the examination during their first semester at Morgan. If you earn credit for SPCH 101, you will have satisfactorily completed your Speech Proficiency requirement.

The Writing Proficiency exam is a junior-level examination. We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to complete the Writing Proficiency Examination during the first semester after you complete the 6-credit humanities (Humanities 211-212) requirement. Therefore, you should complete your Humanities 211-212 requirements by the end of your sophomore year at Morgan.

Honors General Education courses are only offered during the academic semesters. Credits transferred from another institution count toward UNIVERSITY academic requirements but DO NOT count as HONORS credits.
