Mission
The mission of the University Honors Program is to assist in the creation and maintenance of services and curricular activities that encourage, promote, and support achieving excellence in academic, personal, cultural, and professional endeavors among students having a demonstrated record of scholarly accomplishments, high motivation, and a desire to achieve at the highest levels.
The Honors Program
The Honors Program operates under the auspices of the University’s Vice-President for Academic Affairs. As an academic unit, the Program manages the availability of challenging courses at the University, coordinates the activities of the University’s many honor societies, and encourages the development of a host of other activities directed toward creating and maintaining a superlative learning environment. Students are required to undertake a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum in both the liberal arts and their major fields of study to obtain theoretical and practical knowledge and skills applicable to post-baccalaureate pursuits in academia and industry. This Honors curriculum consists of accelerated and intensified math, science, and humanities courses that are especially suited for highly motivated, high-ability students.
Objectives
The Honors Program is a vital academic entity dedicated to the realization of the University’s missions and objectives. Our specific objectives are:
- To identify, assist to recruit, enroll, retain, and graduate high ability students;
- To support an intellectually challenging and stimulating education in the liberal arts and the major fields of study;
- To promote and encourage academic endeavors and scholarly pursuits aimed at endowing students with critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills; and
To catalyze the highest levels of academic, personal and professional growth among our award recipients.
