Truth Hall
Truth Hall serves as the Morgan’s main administration building. Located
near the academic center of campus, it was constructed in 1946 and originally
was used as a women’s residence hall. Truth Hall is named after Sojourner
Truth, who was born a slave in New York state about 1797. Freed in 1827
when New York passed anti-slavery legislation, she became an active abolitionist
and one of the most famous anti-slavery orators of her time. Sojourner
Truth also became the first prominent African-American woman to become
closely associated with the women’s suffrage movement.
