Banneker Communications Center Banneker Communications Center is near the academic center of campus. It houses classrooms and offices for the University’s Telecommunications program. Banneker Communications Center recognizes Benjamin Banneker (1731-1806), a Maryland native and the son of a slave. A mathematician and astronomer, he also assisted in the first-ever survey of the Federal District (now Washington, D.C.) in 1791. He was well know for predicting solar and lunar eclipses and compiling information for almanacs. His own publication,Benjamin Banneker’s Almanac, was a popular source of information during the 1790's. |
