T. Joan Robinson, Ph.D.

Dr. T. Joan Robinson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Morgan State University received her Ph.D. in Endocrinology/Cell Biology from Howard University after which she completed postdoctoral studies at the prestigious Mayo Clinic and at the Laboratory of Chemistry at NIDDK, NIH. Prior to her provost position, she held academic positions as Assistant Professor at North Carolina A&T State University; Associate Professor at Xavier University of Louisiana; Professor and Chairperson of Biology at Morgan State University; and Professor and Dean of the School of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences.

An expert in her field, Dr. Robinson has published extensively in scientific journals and served as co-editor of the International Journal of Cellular and Molecular Biology. She is a sought-after presenter at national and international scientific conferences. As a skilled grants-writer, she has secured approximately $40 million in research grants throughout her academic career and earned Morgan State University Outstanding Award and the Platinum Club award in Grantsmanship

Dr. Robinson's many awards include: Morgan State University Outstanding Chairperson Award, Howard University's Most Distinguished Ph.D. Alumnus, the Minority Access 2001 National Role Model Award, the American Bibliographic Institute's 2003 Woman of the Year, the 2005 YWCA Leader in Science and Education and the 2006 Spectrum Science Trailblazer, Top Minority in Science Award and the 2007 Living Women's History Makers Community Award for Education. She has served as a consultant to the National Advisory General Medical Sciences (NAGMS) Council, at the National Institutes of Health, as a consultant and former Chairperson of the National Institute of General Medical Science (NIGMS)/Minority Biomedical Research Support (MBRS) Subcommittee Review Panel; as former President of the Program Directors' Organization for the Research Infrastructure in Minority Institution (RIMI) Program and as a consultant on the U.S. Army Science Board in which she provides counsel to the Secretary of the Army in the field of Science and related matters and currently serves as member of the Board of Trustee for Carlow University, Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Robinson has participated in numerous professional organizations, including the American Society for Cell Biology, the Federation for the American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the International Society for Who's Who of Professionals.
