Dr. Carray Banks

Dr. Carray Banks, Jr. is a native of Elizabeth City, NC. He serves as the Department Head of the Department Of Technology in the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology at Norfolk State University, in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Banks completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts Education with honors from Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and completed the Master of Arts degree at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He later received the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Vocational and Industrial Education from Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Banks has served as a consultant to building construction companies, data acquisition companies, and numerous public education institutions. He has been employed with North Carolina State University, Virginia Department of Education and the US Department of Labor as the Vocational Education Specialist for the Employment and Training Administration Agency. He also serves as a presenter and reader for the Gates Millennium Scholarship Foundation which awards full scholarships to students attending American Colleges and Universities. Dr. Banks has also held two major national appointments including; member of the NCAA Academic Executive Council and the NCAA HBCU Advisory Group.
Dr. Banks currently serves as the President of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and is the Faculty Athletic Representative for NSU Athletics.
Dr. Banks has held membership of a host of organizations including: International Technology Educators Association; Virginia Technology Teacher Association; 200+ Men of Hampton Roads; Mentor for the MASS Chapter of 200+ at Granby High School,; Chesapeake Public Schools Career and Technical Advisory Board member; Norfolk (VA) Alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; the National Association of Industrial Technologist; Bayside High School planning commission; Virginia Beach Compass 2015 Strategic Planning Commission, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholarship Foundation program ambassador.
Among the many special awards and recognitions he has received include: Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities; Who’s Who of American Colleges and University Professors; The Urban League of Hampton Roads 2004 Unsung Hero of the Year, Featured in local media for his work with student organization; 2004 Norfolk(VA) Alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Unsung Hero Award; 2005 Kappa Alpha Psi Eastern Regional Unsung Hero Award; and was awarded the Norfolk State University Association of Educational Office Professionals (NSUAEOP) 2005 Administrator of the Year Award.
