The Master of Architecture program's Design Studio III was recently highlighted in the Baltimore Sun for its Cross Street Market project in Federal Hill. Professors Jeremy Kargon and Sanit Roy has given the students the task of designing a town hall across from the market, along Charles Street and developing conceptual plans to reinvigorate the Cross Street Market.
According the sun article, "the students have been given specific parameters: Design a two-story structure that would include the market stalls on the first level and workshops on the second level for making garments that could be sold in neighborhood shops". Members of the Federal Hill community and Baltimore Public Markets Corp., the nonprofit organization that runs the five city-owned markets, are extremely excited about this opportunity and look forward to seeing what the students develop for the Market and its surrounding area. University of Maryland-College Park's architecture program has also been asked to come up with concepts for the Federal Hill market. For the full article, click here.
