BSAED has a Party

On November 10th, the Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Environmental Design (BSAED) program celebrated its 10th Anniversary at Morgan with a lecture by program's founder and author of The Crisis of the African American Architect: Conflicting Cultures of Architecture and (Black) Power., Melvin Mitchell, FAIA. Mr. Mitchell discussed the genesis of the new program, the spawning of the Center of the Built Environmental and Infrastructure Studies (CBEIS)- the new home of the School of Architecture and Planning, opening in Fall 2012, and the future of architecture practice.

Over 100 students, faculty, alumni, and friends of the program attended the celebration. Other highlights of the evening included a trip down memory lane by Professor Dale Green, BSAED Alum, Class of 2005 and Dr. Richard Lloyd, Mr. Mitchell's successor as IAP (now SA+P) Director, presenting Mr. Mitchell a plaque for his service and dedication to the program.  The evening concluded with BSAED students serenading the program with a "unique" rendition of  "Happy Birthday".

Congratulations to the BSAED Program Director, Gabriel Kroiz and the faculty, staff, and students for a wonderful evening. For additional pictures from the 10th Anniversary Lecture, visit our facebook page.

Before the lecture, Mr. Melvin Mitchell appeared on the Marc Steiner Show to talk about the history of African-American architects in the U.S.  To listen to the Melvin Mitchell segment, click here.
