Kathryn Doherty
Assistant Vice President for Assessment and Operations
Dr. Kathryn Doherty, Assistant Vice President for Assessment and Operations, is responsible for overseeing and administering the Morgan State University Comprehensive Assessment Plan, the Center for Performance Assessment, Morgan Online, the Office of General Education, and the Trio Grant programs. Dr. Doherty has been a higher education professional for more than 25 years and has expertise in the areas of student learning outcomes, assessment of co-curricular learning, process analysis and evaluation, and identification/application of data and results for decision-making.
Dr. Doherty completed her undergraduate work at Smith College in Northampton, MA, then earned an MBA degree and an Ed.D. in Education Policy, Research and Analysis from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. During her graduate years, Dr. Doherty helped establish the Isenberg School of Management Business Writing Center at UMass, instructed in the Business Writing program, and was a Writing Across the Curriculum consultant. She has taught at the undergraduate and graduate level for 20 years.
In addition to her educational background and teaching experience, Dr. Doherty is an examiner for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. She has also been an examiner and team leader for the Maryland Performance Excellence Awards, an external evaluator on NSF, NIH and other grants, and is a member of the Association for Institutional Research, the Maryland Association for Institutional Research, the National Society for Experiential Education, and AERA. Dr. Doherty has presented at numerous national and regional professional conferences and has papers and handbooks on the assessment of student learning and on evaluating quality in higher education.
