Higher Education Reconciliation Act - Two New Grant Programs

ACADEMIC COMPETITIVE GRANT (ACG)

  • REQUIREMENTS
    • U.S. CITIZEN
    • FEDERAL PELL RECIPIENT
    • ENROLLED AS A FULLTIME STUDENT IN AN ELIGIBLE PROGRAM OF STUDY
    • NO SPECIFIC MAJOR REQUIRED
    • 1st year students must have graduated after 1/1/06 and not previously enrolled in an undergraduate program
    • 2nd year students must have graduated after 1/1/05 and have a 3.0 GPA in an eligible program
  • REQUIRES COMPLETION OF A RIGOROUS H.S. CURRICULUM
    • Completion of at least two advanced placement courses with a passing test score of 3 or two International Baccalaureate courses with a passing test score of 4.
    • OR Completion of
      • 4 YEARS OF ENGLISH
      • 3 YEARS OF SCIENCE
      • 3 YEARS OF MATH
      • 3 YEARS OF SOCIAL STUDIES
      • 1 YEAR OF A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
    • OR Completion of
      • State Scholars Initiative
        An advanced or honors secondary Program established by the state and in existence for the 04/05 or 05/06 academic year
  • US DEPT OF EDUCATION WILL NOTIFY STUDENTS OF ELIGIBILITY VIA EMAIL/ LETTER
  • STUDENTS MUST SELF-CERTIFY
  • MORGAN STATE WILL BE ALERTED VIA FLAT FILE AND NEW MESSAGE CLASSES
  • MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY WILL ALSO ATTEMPT TO LOCATE ELIGIBLE STUDENTS

    • $750 MAX AWARD IN FIRST YEAR
    • $1300 MAX AWARD IN SECOND YEAR

    • $4000 IN THIRD YEAR
    • $4000 IN FOURTH YEAR

SMART grant recipients do not need to contact the office of financial aid as we will locate all eligible students and notify them in writing.
