Department of Psychology
The program is consistent with the University mission, which first addresses the intellectual and academic needs of the students from urban enviroments across Baltimore, the state of Maryland, and the nation. While the approximately 360 students enrolled as psychology majors represent multicultural and multiethnic communities, the predominant ethnic composition of psychology major students are African American. The processes, procedures, and principles utilized within the Department are disigned to support each student's gainful employment and/or successful entry in advanced programs
Additionally, courses within the program are designed to strengthen students written and oral presentations skills, critical thinking and reasoning, information and technological literacy, socio-cultural and international awareness, personal development, and career planning and development. The General Psychology course, in particular, serves as an optional general education curriculum offering that fulfills the liberal arts emphasis of the University.
