Originally from Eritrea Serequeberhan secured his B.A., in political science from the University of Massachusetts (Boston) in 1979 and his M.A., and Ph.D., in philosophy, from Boston College in 1982 and 1988 respectively. He is the editor of African Philosophy: The Essential Readings (Paragon, 1991) and the author of: The Hermeneutics of African Philosophy: Horizon and Discourse (Routledge, 1994); Our Heritage: The Past in the Present of African-American and African Existence (Rowan & Littlefield, 2000); and Contested Memory: The Icons of the Occidental Tradition (Africa World Press, 2007).
His ongoing research is focused on overlapping concerns in Africana and Continental philosophy.
