A Message from the Dean
Message from the Dean:
Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) at Morgan State University. The largest of the nine schools at Morgan State University, CLA is the academic centerpiece of campus. Dedicated to the acquisition of general knowledge, the development of rational thought, and the promotion of intellectual pursuits (including global literacy), CLA provides the foundation for all learning.
In addition to contributing a number of general education courses to the University curricula, CLA consists of eleven academic departments that offer degrees in more than 15 disciplines leading to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Degree, the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) Degree, and the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree.
For students who seek advanced training beyond the bachelor's degree, CLA offers master's degree programs in ten disciplines: African-American Studies, Economics, English, History, International Studies, Museum Studies and Historical Preservation, Music, Psychometrics, Sociology and Telecommunications Management.
CLA also offers the doctorate in three areas: English, History and Psychometrics. Exceptionally motivated students may enroll in a seamless, accelerated program of study leading to all three degrees in those three areas.
We boast a renowned and dedicated faculty and staff in our academic departments of
· English
· Philosophy & Religious Studies
· World Languages & International Studies
The College supports a radio station and a museum. WEAA is a public radio station that strives to educate and enlighten Baltimore and beyond by offering programming that is culturally diverse and artistic in nature. As a broadcast training facility we are committed to the use of emerging technology to provide a more interactive approach to content development, music and cultural expression. The James E. Lewis Museum of Art (JELMA) is an art museum with one of the eastern seaboard's finest collections of African, African-American and European Art.
We believe, as advocate Marian Wright Edelman advised, that “Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.” Be a part of our legacy of leadership and excellence.
Sincerely,
Dr. Adele S. Newson-Horst, Dean
