The Board of Regents retained the services of Ayers & Associates, Inc., a national executive search firm to assist the Search Committee in recruiting and screening candidates for the position. The search process included the review of over 106 applications received in response to local and national advertisements as well as the search firm's contact with over 250 leaders in higher education, foundations, government, and the corporate community.
As stated by Dr. Shirley Malcom, chair of the Search Committee and a member of the MSU Board of Regents, "the Search Committee has done an excellent job in identifying three outstanding candidates for MSU's presidency. This was a distinct challenge in trying to identify someone to replace Dr. Earl Richardson who will be leaving the presidency in December after 25 years of service and transforming MSU into an urban doctoral research university of national stature."
The finalist candidates will visit the MSU campus during the month of November and will subsequently be interviewed by the Board of Regents. The Board will select a new president and name Dr. Richardson's successor no later than December 15th.
