Hundreds Attend Campus Health Fair

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 08, 2009

The campus Health Fair, "Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds," was held in the University Student Center on April 8, 2009. The event was sponsored by the University Counseling Center along with representatives from Student Activities, MINDS eHealth project, School of Community Health and Policy, Wellness Center, SGA, Health Center, and Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. Hundreds of students attended the fair. Thirty-nine exhibitors from a variety of agencies and academic departments offered information about physical and mental health. HIV, STI, vision, blood pressure, and body mass index testing; and anxiety, depression and alcohol screening were available. The Baltimore City Health Department reported that 84 students were tested for Sexually Transmitted Infections, and demand was so great that more testing will be scheduled for a later date. In coordination with the Health Fair, the Graves School of Business Honors Program sponsored a Red Cross Blood Drive which collected a record 157 units of blood on that day.
