Subject: Restructuring of Selected Academic Units
Pursuant to our continuing efforts to improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of our academic programs, the following academic units will be restructured as indicated, effective November 16, 2009:
A. The School of Education and Urban Studies will be reorganized into two schools. The Department of Social Work will comprise the new School of Social Work under the leadership of Dr. Anna McPhatter. Dr. Patricia Welch will continue to be the Dean of the School of Education and Urban Studies, which will be made up of the remaining departments. This reorganization has been under consideration since 2007.
B. The Center for Civil Rights in Education, currently in the School of Graduate Studies, will be removed from the School of Graduate Studies and stand alone as a separate entity, located on the 4th floor of the New Library.
The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, through the Dean, will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of the provisions of this memorandum. Please feel free to contact Dr. T. Joan Robinson if you have any questions.
